We see wicked people prosper, and this can make us doubt God's justice.
Does God care about people who do good or evil?
Romans 2:9-11
9 There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; 10 but glory, honour and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
11 For God does not show favouritism.
Here Are My Key Takeaways from The Verses Above:
There are consequences to sin
There are rewards for doing good
God doesn't have favourites.
I will discuss them in detail.
There Are Consequences to Sin.
Galatians 6:7-8
English Standard Version
7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
Some people embraced God's grace, and they are sharing the message that we can still get blessings even when we do bad things. I believe this. However, we cannot remove the fact that sin comes with consequences.
Condemnation will not come from God because He doesn't condemn, but He will not break spiritual laws that He put in place for us.
For example, God could have saved us from hell in an instant. However, He chose to uphold the spiritual laws and went through the appropriate process of saving humanity through Jesus.
Jesus went through the process of becoming man, accomplishing all the commands in the Bible, then sacrificing His life for the payment of sin. The spiritual law states that the wage of sin is death, and therefore Jesus must die.
As believers, when we sin, we might not pay for it with death, but it messes with our heads.
We feel guilt and condemnation, and we begin to question our faith. God still loves us, and we are still saved, but our minds tell us otherwise. Like what the key verse says, trouble and distress will be upon us when we sin.
God's love for us is perfect. It will not change regardless of what we do. That's why overcoming sin is not for God's benefit. We work hard against evil so that we will have peace in our hearts and minds.
There Are Rewards for Doing Good.
Colossians 3:23-24
English Standard Version
23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Don't get tired of doing good. We will receive our reward because that's what God promised.
There is a saying that goes, "your actions are birthed from a single thought." This quote tells us that we think about our actions before we do it.
The good thing about this process is that we can change our minds. Replacing our thoughts is something that we can do when a negative thought pops into our heads; we can choose to worship. You cannot worry and worship at the same time.
Although sticking to thoughts of worship is hard when our flesh is weak. We need to be persistent.
God Doesn't Have Favourites.
Galatians 3:28
English Standard Version
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
God is good and plays no favourites. The wicked will be punished, and goodness will be rewarded.
If we see wicked men prosper, we should not question God's justice. He will punish them in His perfect time.
We should focus on ourselves. We should think about how we can become better people and followers of Christ.
We Will Fail.
Proverbs 24:16
English Standard Version
16
for the righteous falls seven times and rises again,
but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.
We will make mistakes. As long as we're on earth, we cannot avoid committing errors.
As I said, we must be persistent. When we fall, we should not punish ourselves too much and try again.
Jesus sees our hearts and his love for us is unconditional. Our salvation will not be based on our works.
Romans 5:8
English Standard Version
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Let Us Sum It Up
Sin will make us think that God hates us. As a result, we walk away from God and feel that we're not worthy of His blessings. Believing that we cannot receive good things from God will hinder our blessings.
Don't stop doing good. We will receive our reward in due time.
God is fair, and He will bless us according to our deeds. He created us to be unique with a specific purpose, so we have to trust His timing as well. We will receive our breakthrough at the right time.
Prayer of Salvation
Friend, if you want to know Jesus, but you are unsure of your standing in faith, say this prayer. God sees your heart, so say the words with conviction and faith.
"Father, I am a sinner. Forgive my sins. I believe that Jesus died on the cross so I could live fully on earth and in heaven. Change my heart and mind according to your will. This I pray, in the mighty Name of Jesus, amen."
Friend, if you prayed this prayer in faith, I believe you have set things right with God.
