Trying times can create doubts in the heart of a Christian.
"I have been praying, but why is God not answering?"
"Is there a God?"
This pandemic has brought out the best and worst in people. If you are one of the many who are suffering and are now having doubts about God's existence, then let us talk about:
Romans 1:20
20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
We will discuss the verse in detail, and hopefully, we will find proof about God's existence and goodness.
Man can see the effects of God.
People can see what God has done, and Christians are called to declare His goodness all the time.
Psalm 66:5 English Standard Version
5 Come and see what God has done: he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man.
John said in his Gospel that Jesus did many miracles that are not written in the Bible. Psalm 105 gives us a good summary of the things that God did for us to feel His existence.
Psalm 105 1 Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. 2 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. 3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice. 4 Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always. 5 Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, 6 you his servants, the descendants of Abraham, his chosen ones, the children of Jacob. 7 He is the Lord our God; his judgments are in all the earth. 8 He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations, 9 the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac.
These verses remind us to praise and worship God all the time. His wondrous works should be a reminder to give a song or shout of praise to Him. God's works should inspire us to seek His presence always.
What are God's deeds?
He created the universe
He performed miracles
He kept His promises
He is a good judge
Let us discuss God's work in detail one by one.
1. God Created the Universe.
Hebrews 11:3 English Standard Version (ESV)
3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
The brightest minds in the world believe that the universe is one big accident. However, as Christians, we choose to believe that the universe is God's masterpiece.
As for me, I cannot think that this world is without an architect. Looking at beautiful places, going through amazing experiences, and meeting extraordinary people strengthens my faith that my God lives.
2. God Performs Miracles.
Matthew 9:20-22 English Standard Version (ESV)
20 And behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, 21 for she said to herself, "If I only touch his garment, I will be made well." 22 Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, "Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well." And instantly the woman was made well.
Matthew 9:23-26 English Standard Version (ESV)
23 And when Jesus came to the ruler's house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, 24 he said, "Go away, for the girl is not dead but sleeping." And they laughed at him. 25 But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. 26 And the report of this went through all that district.
Exodus 14:31 English Standard Version (ESV)
31 Israel saw the great power that the Lord used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the Lord, and they believed in the Lord and in his servant Moses.
I could put a lot more verses. God performs miracles. He did then, and He still does now.
You can read about babies unharmed in a car accident. A mother healed from stage four cancer and the help that arrived at the right time. These are all miracles of God.
Let us believe in miracles.
3. God Keeps His Promises.
Joshua 23:14 English Standard Version
14 "And now I am about to go the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed.
God's promises to us will become a reality.
I think what is wrong is our expectations of God. We want a god who does everything we want, but our God is a King. He will not just bow down to us. He created us with a purpose, and He wants us to fulfil our destiny.
The Jews expected Jesus to overthrow Rome with force, but Jesus wanted them to use faith.
The Jews want Jesus to show His power at that moment, but He followed God's timing.
Because Jesus was not what they expected, the Jews did not believe that He is the Messiah.
Same with us, we think God is not good all the time because of prayers we uttered that did not happen. Remember that God will not grant prayers that will steer you away from your destiny.
4. God Is A Good Judge.
2 Corinthians 5:10 English Standard Version
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.
A time is coming when everyone will face judgment. We can be sure that people will get what is coming to them.
The abusers, the wicked, and all the people who made life hard for others will receive their punishment.
Those who suffered in the Name of Jesus will receive their reward.
If we see corrupt people getting their way today, let us not be discouraged. We have a God of justice.
If we work hard and not see results, do not fret. God sees your suffering, and He will reward you in His perfect time.
Let Us Sum It Up
God is good, and humanity knows that God exists through His works.
We have the responsibility to praise and worship Him every time we see or experience His works. That means we worship all the time.
We have the responsibility to share His goodness to other people. Share Jesus.
We must trust God's timing because He set time for justice and rewards. We must be patient.
Prayer of Salvation Friend, if you want to know Jesus, but you are unsure of your standing in faith, say this prayer. God sees your heart, so say the words with conviction and faith. "Father, I am a sinner. Forgive my sins. I believe that Jesus died on the cross so I could live fully on earth and in heaven. Change my heart and mind according to your will. This I pray, in the mighty Name of Jesus, amen." Friend, if you prayed this prayer in faith, I believe you have set things right with God. If you want to grow in faith, find a Bible-based church.
