We live in confusing times. A lot of us expected great things to happen in 2020, but the world faced trials since the beginning of the year.
Most of us are asking, "why is God allowing these events to happen?"
No one has the answer. God works in mysterious ways, but we can learn about His purpose if we seek Him.
I encourage everyone to take time out of your busy schedules to pray and read the Bible.
My devotional reading this week is:
Romans 1:19
19 since what may be known about God is plain to them because God has made it plain to them.
Here are my takeaways from this verse:
God Reveals Himself to People.
God shows people who He is. One of the ways God uses to connect to man is through His creation, nature, for example.
When you visit beautiful places like the Three Sisters in the Blue Mountains or the 12 Apostles in Melbourne, something stirs within you. It is hard to explain, but I think that feeling is nature worshipping God.
Even though God reveals Himself to people, He does not engage in a personal relationship with everyone.
Psalm 25:14
English Standard Version (ESV)
14 The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant.
We can only have an intimate relationship with God if we fear Him. This fear is reverence and not being scared of Him.
Accepting His Son, Jesus as our Lord and Saviour is evidence of our fear of the Lord.
The Things We Understand Are Revealed to Us
Proverbs 2:6
King James Version (KJV)
6 For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
What we know about God, He allowed us to know.
God will let us know only what we need. He will give us enough wisdom to get to the next step, but He will not give everything away.
It is hard to comprehend. I do not know why God does this. I have no explanation. I accepted a long time ago that I would never fully understand God; this leads us to the next point.
There Are Things That We Will Never Understand.
Ecclesiastes 8:17
New International Version (NIV)
17 then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend what goes on under the sun. Despite all their efforts to search it out, no one can discover its meaning. Even if the wise claim they know, they cannot really comprehend it.
If God does not reveal His purpose to us, then we will not understand what is happening or what transpired. God is like that.
Like what we talked about in item two, we understand things only if He allows us to understand it.
We have questions; here are examples:
Why did that corrupt politician get away with everything?
Why did that innocent woman die?
Why is there racism?
There are no acceptable answers to these queries. We must trust God's word that His plans are good for us. When people start questioning our faith because of these situations, we should be able to say, "I don't know" and not be shattered spiritually.
Let us Sum it Up
God reveals His existence to humankind. His creation shouts His glory and people feel His glory.
What we know about God was purposely revealed to us. We did not learn anything through our efforts.
We will never understand God fully, and we must accept this truth wholeheartedly. I believe that if we could completely comprehend God's nature and plans, He is not worthy to be worshipped. Good thing we have a God of mystery.
Prayer of Salvation
Friend, if you want to know Jesus, but you are unsure of your standing in faith, say this prayer. God sees your heart, so say the words with conviction and faith.
"Father, I am a sinner. Forgive my sins. I believe that Jesus died on the cross so I could live fully on earth and in heaven. Change my heart and mind according to your will. This I pray, in the mighty Name of Jesus, amen."
Friend, if you prayed this prayer in faith, I believe you have set things right with God.
