Social media is entertaining, but it can be annoying at times, especially when you read about people who are above the law, unclear government policies, and the like.
If you are not careful, you might end up ranting on social media and having senseless debates online.
Righteous living seems to be impossible nowadays. However, the Bible says Christians can still live the right way. Here is our key verse for this devotional:
Romans 1:17
17 For in the gospel, the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."
Here are my takeaways from the verse:
1. The gospel reveals God's righteousness.
The method God used to save man from eternal damnation tells God’s righteousness.
Merriam Webster defines righteousness as acting in accord with divine or moral law: free from guilt or sin.
Romans 6:23
King James Version (KJV)
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
There is a divine law that governs sin. It would not be righteous for God to save us in an instant because He will break His rule. The price of sin must be paid.
The right way to man's salvation was to give His Son Jesus as a sacrifice.
Death is the consequence of sin. Jesus chose to die and pay the wages of sin because He loves us too much to let us burn in Hell.
John 3:16
New International Version (NIV)
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
2. Righteousness is a race done in faith.
2 Timothy 4:7
English Standard Version (ESV)
7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Our journey in Christ will not be comfortable, and we will face many battles. We should see our mission of faith to completion.
Always remember that we can tap into the power of the Holy Spirit. When we are weak, God's empowerment fills us like a tidal wave. We should not fear. The road may be long and hard, but we will finish the race by faith.
3. We are only righteous by faith.
Ephesians 2:8
English Standard Version (ESV)
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.
Jesus finished the work for us, that is why He is so awesome.
We do not have to worry about obeying all the commands in the Bible altogether. We all know that we cannot be good all the time, only God is good.
We are so fortunate that Jesus took that responsibility from us. God became man through Jesus and lived a perfect life. Jesus was tempted and suffered like us, but He did not sin. He is sinless and became the perfect sacrifice to pay for all sins of the past, present, and future.
All we need to do now is to believe in Jesus because salvation is activated by faith.
Sum it Up
God is righteous beyond comprehension. We must believe by faith that He is good all the time.
Life is a test of faith. We need to be faithful to God from start to finish.
We are righteous, and our righteousness has nothing to do with our abilities. Our uprightness came from Jesus and if we believe Him then we are blameless.
Prayer of Salvation
Friend, if you want to know Jesus, but you are unsure of your standing in faith, say this prayer.
God sees your heart, so say the words with conviction and faith.
"Father, I am a sinner. Forgive my sins. I believe that Jesus died on the cross so I could live fully on earth and in heaven. Change my heart and mind according to your will. This I pray, in the mighty Name of Jesus, amen."
Friend, if you prayed this prayer in faith, I believe you have set things right with God.
