#coronavirus

Netizens are divided between allowing people who came from China to travel and banning them from leaving their country.

We can divide the netizens into two groups: Group In and Group Out.

Let’s understand these groups.

Group In

Group In are netizens who want people in China to stay there until the virus is contained. This fear is understandable because they fear for their lives.

With the number of people getting infected and death tolls rising, you would understand why they want to take extreme measures to keep their families safe.

Group Out

These are the netizens who are okay to let people from China to travel for whatever reason because morals dictate that it’s okay.

What can we do better?

Matthew 12:36-37 ESV

I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.

Ephesians 4:29 ESV

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

For both groups, it would be better to state facts about the virus instead of blaming people or race.

State your point and back it up with medical facts. You don’t need to use hurtful words to validate your reasons because there is legit evidence to prove both conclusions.

We need to learn how to express our opinions without being hurtful towards others.

Reality Check

It’s challenging to talk about this issue without hurting people. That’s just how it is now.

However, if we try harder to consider the emotions of others and look at the issue with an open mind, we should make it a little better for others.

Let’s appreciate the government. They need to make the hard decisions for us. And no matter what they choose to do, they will never please people. Hopefully, they want the best for the state of the nation, not just for the short term but for the long haul as well.

What can we do?

1. Take precautionary measures.

As an individual, there’s little we can do to contain the corona virus. However, if all of us exert effort in protecting ourselves from the virus, we can prevent it from spreading.

Here is the list of the things that we can do to protect ourselves from the virus:

  • Keep distance. 0.5m to 2m is a reasonable distance from those who are showing symptoms.

  • Give infected people masks. This will prevent them from spreading the virus.

  • Avoid crowds if possible.

  • Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly.

  • Do not share your things and food if possible.

If we do these things, we will help stop spreading the virus.

2. Keep the faith.

Psalm 94:19

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Mark 4:39-40

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?

Epidemic and other natural disasters are beyond our control. Worrying and stressing about it will not help provide any resolution to the issue. Just do your part.

Remember, Jesus is in control. Seek Him with all your heart and let His will be the primary purpose of your life. You will get God’s protection and empowerment as we go through life facing challenges such as the corona virus.
