I remember when you were little.
You looked at me, and your gaze spelt out the hero.
You thought I was the strongest man on the planet as I carried you in my arms.
You thought I was the smartest person in the world as I gave you what you needed before you even asked for it.
You thought I was your best friend in the whole wide world.
Then you grew up.
You grew up to learn that I am not the man you believed I was.
You grew up to learn I’m not the strongest because now you are stronger than me.
You grew up to learn that I’m not the smartest because now you are smarter than me.
I’m not your best friend anymore because you have a nice person who holds the title.
You look at me, and your gaze reveals that I’m no longer your hero.
But I want you to know.
I gave you all my strength even when I’m at my weakest.
I thought of you even when the chaos of the world screamed its loudest.
I will stay by your side even when your friends leave you, at least, for as long as I can.
I gave it my best shot. Though my best may seem average, it never lacked love.
Matthew 7:11
New King James Version (NKJV)
11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
Psalm 127:3-5
3 Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him. 4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth.
5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.
Ephesians 6:2
New International Version (NIV)
2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise.
