How Should Christians Respond to Attacks Against the Gospel?

Bandwagon atheists are posting on social media about the Gospel and faith claiming that they are expressing their opinions. I find this alarming since the youth are very active on these platforms and most of them are easily swayed into believing anything that is trending.

Another thing that triggers me is that bandwagon atheists hide their mockery of faith under the cover of freedom of speech. They do not consider the words that they use to describe faith, Biblical concepts and God. For example, one bandwagon atheist would say, “If you think that the world was created by a guy with a beard,” or “This might affect your ego.” What they fail to understand is that the use of a degrading statement— regardless of how witty it may seem— will trigger believers, not because believers are bigots, but because they are belittling a person Whom we adore beyond comprehension and degrading our entire belief system.

I honestly believe true atheists understand and respect this concept because they have deep convictions as well, but this thinking will not make sense to bandwagon atheists.

When I reflect about publicly bashing Biblical concepts and faith, I can say that it is becoming the norm. I remember the days when I rarely see any posts from personal accounts discrediting the Bible. Nowadays, bandwagon atheists are getting more and more comfortable in mocking the Bible and faith. The main reason why discrediting Biblical concepts affects me is because it could deprive people the gift of immortality.

I’ll try to explain this concept to the best of my ability. The Bible says faith is a powerful thing. Whatever you put your faith into will come to pass.

For example, there is an available promotion in John’s office. If John believes with all his heart and soul that he will get the promotion and combines his belief with appropriate actions, he will get the promotion. In the same way, if John believes that he will NOT get the promotion, he will NOT get it even if he does the appropriate actions to receive the promotion. Faith works both ways. You believe in the good you will receive good things; you believe in the bad then you will get bad things.

Going back to immortality, the Bible says if you put your faith in Jesus, then you have the assurance of prosperity here on earth and will spend eternity in paradise. on the other hand, if you put your faith in the concept that there’s nothing more in this life than what we perceive with our senses, then that’s exactly what you’ll get.

Therefore, I want to encourage everyone to put their faith on Jesus. If we’re going to believe in something, let’s believe in something beautiful and eternal. Deep inside, each one of us knows that there is something better than what we are experiencing right now.

I believe with all my heart that the reason why we have this endless desire for prosperity is that we’re eternal beings. We are immortals! God designed us for eternity and heaven is our home.

In line with all that has been discussed, I’m calling out all the Christians out there. We should not be silent.

Don’t get me wrong, we are not going to argue with unbelievers on social media. We are not called to get into debates online. God gave people free will and only the Holy Spirit can change a person’s mind. It will not be up to us to convince them that God is real. What we’re going to do is to stick to the Great Commission. We are going to do what we are called to do, which is to reach out to the lost and the ones who need a Saviour.

The Bible says that the harvest is plenty, but the workers are few. There are a lot of people who need Jesus and we should focus on them. There are people who are beaten, broken, hungry, sick, hurt, rejected, and lonely. These people need hope and they need to know they are not alone. These people need to know that they have a God that loves them unconditionally. They need to know that God is not condemning them for their sins and failures but had sent His Son so that they, all of us, will have the gift of mercy, grace and salvation.

We should work on our lifestyle as well. Let our lifestyle become the testimony for Jesus. Let us live a life that glorifies the Lord. Let us live a life that doesn’t involve anything hidden in darkness. Let us share our testimonies. Share stories about how God enabled us to overcome the toughest trials in life. What we have overcome will be sources of inspiration to others.

Christians should be more active in sharing our faith. When people shout hate and lies against the Gospel, we should shout louder with the truth. Christians are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. What good are we if the world does not taste our saltiness? What good are we if the world does not see our light?

Matthew 9:35-38

English Standard Version (ESV)

35 And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.

36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

2 Timothy 2:23-26

New International Version (NIV)

23 Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. 24 And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.

25 Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
