Keep Up

June 2, 2019

I remember the first time I applied for a training post. I couldn’t explain my emotions at the time, I didn’t know if I was scared or excited. I felt desperate yet positive. All I knew was I never wanted a job role so badly.

I worked hard to get the post. I scheduled coaching sessions with friends who had leadership positions in the company, I practised for hours to master a 20-minute training session, and I prayed. And boy did I pray. I prayed so hard and so long so that God would give me the job.

Fast forward to the present. I recently started training that is supposed to run for 10 weeks. This time I can say that the stakes are higher. Funny, I didn’t find myself desperately praying to God about blessing me with enough skill to run the sessions.

Praise God that what seemed to be impossible for me in the past has become the norm for me today, but this reminded me of how easily we forget God when He says “yes” to our prayers.

Psalm 103:1-5

Of David.

1

Praise the Lord, my soul;

    all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

2

Praise the Lord, my soul,

    and forget not all his benefits—

3

who forgives all your sins

    and heals all your diseases,

4

who redeems your life from the pit

    and crowns you with love and compassion,

5

who satisfies your desires with good things

    so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Sometimes we must tell our souls to praise and worship God. If we do not exert effort to remember God, we will forget about Him.

The world is changing. Things are moving so fast that it’s becoming so difficult to keep up. We need to set our priorities straight. God is first and we must remember Him. We must dedicate every minute of the day to Him.

I believe Psalm 105:1-7 is a checklist on how to remember God all throughout the day. Here are the verses below:

Psalm 105

1

Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done.

2

Sing to him, sing praise to him;

    tell of all his wonderful acts.

3

Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.

4

Look to the Lord and his strength;

    seek his face always.

5

Remember the wonders he has done,

    his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,

6

you his servants, the descendants of Abraham,

    his chosen ones, the children of Jacob.

7

He is the Lord our God;

    his judgments are in all the earth.

Based on the verses above, here are the ways we can remember Him:

  1. Praise His name for the blessings we received.

  2. Sing songs of worship.

  3. Let those who are suffering know that there is comfort in Jesus.

  4. Receive His empowerment for your daily tasks. Acknowledge that you can only do things through Him.

  5. Count the blessings He gave us.

  6. Remember that we are His servants.

  7. Remember that He is God.

Truly God is good. He is the God of unconditional love and unmerited favour. We should not be consumed by the things of this world. We should be grounded in faith and continuously appreciate our Father in heaven.
