Embrace Change

February 7, 2019

By faith, this is what I believed to have happened while I was sitting in a company conducted workshop. The Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, “Stir up your God given gifts and step into the vision that I have laid upon you. Be ready for change and inspire others to take part and prepare for what’s coming.”

This message made huge sense since our era records the fastest pace in technological advancement. Change is happening rapidly more than any other time in history, and Christians should be ready for progress if we want to share the gospel in this fast-paced world.

People in general are not comfortable with change because humans are creatures of habit. We hate anything that disrupts our lifestyle. However, it is important to remember that those who cannot influence or adapt to change will lose opportunities. This could mean losing our chances to grow our finances, skills, connections, and ministries.

Even big companies embrace change and prepare for it. Businesses that lead the market and impact the world are always ready for change. They introduce products and services that the world had never seen. They know that if they fail to innovate they will be left behind.

Apple, for example, embrace change. In fact, Apple spearhead change. They rocked the world with the introduction of Macintosh computers in the 80s and they continue to impact their spheres with their iPhones and iPads. Apple still does not stop innovating.

Businesses like Uber, Airbnb, and Amazon introduced business models that the world has never seen before and are now thriving in global market. These companies provide evidence of the importance of the ability to foresee, influence and be ready for change.

There are some companies that controlled the global market before but became insignificant because they didn’t pursue change. One example is Blockbuster, the video rental store. In the 90s, you would see Blockbuster shops in almost every block in the United States. Netflix tried to sell their business model to Blockbuster for $50 million. Blockbuster declined the offer because they failed to foresee what Netflix was planning to offer the world. Currently, Netflix is valued at $19.7 billion while Blockbuster is out of the market.

The same thing happened with Nokia. Nokia had the biggest share in the world market when it came to mobile phones and was considered the most innovative company in the 90s and early 2000s. They introduced the latest operating system for mobile phones and thought that nothing could top their breakthrough. We all know what happened, the launch of smartphones deemed their technology primitive.

Christians have to be ready for change. We need to accept change. Just like what the Holy Spirit told me, we should take a look at the dreams that God had given us and aspire to turn them into reality.

The dreams that God has placed in our hearts may be so much bigger than the vision we want for ourselves, and it terrifies us, but this is what the Bible says,

2 Corinthians 9:10
New International Version (NIV)

10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.

11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

God will give us everything that we need to accomplish the goals He placed in our hearts because He wants us to be a blessing to others. It will be challenging but like what the cool quote says, “It’s time to get comfortable with being uncomfortable!” Your goals and aspirations may cost everything that you have, but it is definitely worth the sacrifice.

Let’s stir up the gifts God placed in our hearts. Let’s recall the vision He has laid before us. Let’s turn the dream into reality by making an action plan and executing it.

Christians should be the pioneers of progress. We are the world-changers. We are change.
