Sunnies on a Cloudy Day

It was a cloudy day, and it’s bright out even though the sun’s rays couldn’t penetrate the thickness of the clouds. Instinctively I wore my sunglasses and I noticed that I was the only one wearing sunnies. No one really cares, but I just felt a bit weird for a few seconds, and it made me wonder why I wear my sunglasses all the time when it’s not even sunny. I heard about what they call “dark adaptation” for the eyes. It’s a period when your eyes adjust to the darkness and allow you to see better in the dim lighting. I believe I’ve been wearing sunglasses too often that my eyes already adapted to the shade. This human adaptation process made me reflect about man and sin. The Bible says: Matthew 13:15 English Standard Version (ESV) 15  For this people's heart has grown dull,     and with their ears, they can barely hear,     and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes     and hear with their ears and understand with their heart     and turn, and I would heal them.’ Our hearts can grow dull. This means as bad as we are our hearts can still harden. This happens when we get used to sinning. We get accustomed to the behaviour that we think we’re not doing anything wrong. We come up with all sorts of excuses to justify our habits. We have no idea that we’re already in the path of destruction until it’s too late. We need to do a self-assessment now. Let’s seek Jesus right away. We should not delay. We should confess our sins to God and seek forgiveness. We should ask for the empowerment that comes from the Holy Spirit.
