I saw a video about a pelican with his beak tied up. Its beak got caught in a fishing line, and the string got too tight to the point that the pelican couldn’t eat or drink. Fortunately, two men saw it. These men went out of their way to catch the bird and cut the strings on his beak. As they came close to the pelican, it tried to get away, good thing that the man’s quick hands were too fast for the bird. The man was able to grab it by the foot and held the bird on the ground. The bird struggled when the man tried to contain him. The man locked the bird’s wings under his legs and held its beak straight. After that, the man’s friend came to cut the fish string with a knife. The fish string was tangled tight, as the other guy struggled to cut it. When the second guy was halfway through, the pelican was able to open its beak a bit, and then it snapped at the man. Good thing that he had good reflexes. He was able to get his fingers out of the way. After a few minutes, the bird was free. The men were delighted that the pelican could finally eat and drink. This made me reflect on God and our lives. I saw God in the two men, and I saw us in the pelican. When we try to do things our way, we get caught in a fish string. Then, we get used to the fish string on our beaks to the point that we think it’s okay. God helps us because of His love, but instead of letting Him work in us, we struggle. We run from him. We snap at God for trying to direct us to the correct path. We got so used to the fish string that we think there’s nothing better in store for us. If we let God have His way with us— If we allow God lead us and submit to what God is telling us to do— We could fly high, enjoy good food and then be refreshed by water just like the pelican. There’s so much more God has planned for us. Let Jesus be the Lord of our lives. Do not fight Him. Let Him work His way in us, and we will see growth in ways we could have never imagined. Proverbs 14:12 New International Version (NIV) 12 There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end, it leads to death.
