What does freedom mean?

Let’s say I am overweight and I have a high sugar level and family history of diabetes. Does it mean that I could still eat chocolates whenever I want?

Let’s say I want to have the perfect abs. Does it mean it’s okay if I deprive myself of ice cream and a relaxing Saturday afternoon?

Let’s say I am young and I don’t have dependents. Does it mean that I could do anything with my time?

What is society’s definition of freedom? Is anyone free at all?

Here’s what the Bible says,

Romans 6:22
New International Version (NIV)

22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.

Jesus gave us freedom from death. The law that condemns us has no power over us anymore, and now we have life and victory in Christ Jesus.

However, if you genuinely believe in your heart that Christ saved you then your life is not your own. We are now living sacrifices to God. This means we cannot just do whatever we want. We have to do everything following the will of God in our lives.

A lot of people do not want to accept this, they want to live freely, and they want to put their lives in their hands. I understand that no one wants to be slaves, but our God is different. He knows us more than we know ourselves. He created us with a purpose, and we can achieve this when we let Him lead our lives.

My baby is one year old, and he likes to play with power cords and plug them into our power outlet. Everytime he gets a chance to grab a power cord he would take it, so my wife and I oversee him. He would cry everytime we stop him, but apparently, we can’t allow him to play with the cords because he would have a shock of a lifetime.

God is like that. He stops us from doing things that would hurt us. It may feel annoying because we can’t see the big picture, but if we trust and obey Him, we will reap eternal benefits.

Can we be we truly free? I guess not. But I would take servanthood to God anytime. His ways are higher than my own. His plans are way impressive than what I can think or imagine. Praise Him always!

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
New International Version (NIV)

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies.
