These Hard Times

Adam loved his father so much. To Adam, his dad was the greatest ever. Who could blame him?

Adam’s Dad was always there for him. He knew that his Dad was busy at work, but he was still present to see his baseball games. Adam’s Dad always spent his days off with him. They would explore the boundaries of their imaginations, as they went on thrilling quests. They explored mountain ranges, caves and oceans within their living room. Together they defeated monsters and dragons from the toy chest in his bedroom. And of course, they have a long list of princesses that they saved in their adventures.

One day, Adam’s father was sent to the hospital. Adam got worried. Adam’s father told Adam he was okay, and it seemed that he was. Adam and his dad were still able to go on quests that only their father and son combo would dare take.

Unfortunately, Adam’s Dad’s visit to the hospital became too often. Adam saw his Dad go thinner, and he tried to convince himself, “No, it’s not possible because my Dad is made of steel.”

One day, Adam saw his father’s locks fall from his Dad’s head, and he picked it up. Adam gave it to his dad, and his dad raised his arm to receive the locks with extreme difficulty. It seemed that taking strands of hair from his small hands was too much of a task already.

Adam knelt and prayed. With tears falling from his eyes he prayed with all his heart. He promised God with all sincerity that his innocent heart could give that he will do everything for God as long as God keeps his Dad alive and strong.

Adam went to his father’s room in the hospital. His dad was almost unrecognisable. Adam sat next to his Dad and held his father’s hand. Adam’s father gathered all his strength to face him. With a proud and loving look, Adam’s father said,

“Hey, champ! I think this is our last adventure together. Don’t forget the quests we’ve done before. Always remember that my time with you will be my sweetest memory and I will always love you forever. You are the best gift your mother and I have ever had.”

Before Adam could say anything, his father gave his last breath. Nurses and doctors rushed to the room. Adam was sent away. From a near distance, all he could hear were noises from people trying to revive his fallen hero. Tears flowed from his eyes down to the floor, and he didn’t even notice it.

When Adam grew up, friends and family asked him if believed in God and he said no.

Man, I couldn’t even imagine the pain Adam went through. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine a loving God in these types of situations but if we could only muster our last ounce of strength. Continue to believe and trust God through the pain. Praise and worship Him despite the anger and the hurt. We will understand God’s purpose in time.

1 Corinthians 10:13

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it].

Romans 12:12

Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

John 16:33

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
