This work is the third article in the series “Help Me Understand.” Please read “Help Me Understand” Part one and two, as well as the article “Retake” to better understand the reason for the series.
In this article, we will talk about the negative possibilities when we sin. Hopefully, this can really hit the nail on the head when it comes to the effects of sin.
No reward
Sin can make us lose our reward. We should think about this because we don’t want losing out lifelong work just because of a petty fluke.
Moses was one of the great leaders of Israel. He gave half his life for God and the nation of Israel, but because of sin, he didn’t get his reward. Moses lost his patience with the Israelites and was not allowed to see the promised land. (You can read the story in Numbers 20:1-13).
Total annihilation
Sin can also cause your downfall, and you may not get up from it. We need to be careful when dealing with temptation.
This situation happened to Saul. Saul was one of the humblest men in Israel before he was king. However, because of jealousy, he turned into a monster who murdered innocent people including women and children. He lost his kingdom to King David and eventually got killed by his enemies.
My point
God forgives us when we ask forgiveness, no questions asked. Just remember God’s sees our hearts, and we must be true to ourselves— honest, sincere, repentant— when we seek Him.
For the consequences of sin, however, I believe it’s up to God. He can choose to allow the results of our sin to affect us or not. Be reminded that the stakes of shortcomings are high.
We don’t need to understand God’s reasons for everything. Regardless if He punishes us for our sins or exempts us from the consequences of our actions, we have to praise Him and worship Him.
As a sinner, I am eternally grateful to God for giving His life to pay for my sin. I am trying my best to please God, but I cannot promise that I won’t fall again. I am exerting effort to seek Him, learn His will, and live according to His purpose.
Next article we’ll talk about repentance. Hopefully, we could understand it better and help us in our journey to be like Jesus.
Let’s soar higher! Spread positivity! Promote good vibes!
Romans 5:8 New International Version (NIV)
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
